We arrived around midnight the day after we left and did pretty well navigating the Jakarta airport (except the part where we completely messed up the currency conversions and paid over double what a cab to the city should have been, sigh).
Our hotel in Jakarta (Grand Sahid Jaya) was very nice and located in the financial district so safer and more open to walk around in. On the first day we ate at the hotel's big breakfast buffet which was a good chance to learn some food vocabulary so that we could use it when ordering food outside of the oversight of the English-speaking staff
