We spent one day checking out the city palace and shopping in the Pink City. The highlight (for the boys, at least) was finding a sword-maker! Kalani bought a sword and Kekai bought a beautiful horse-headed knife.
Entering the pink city From Agra, we drove to Jaipur, the Pink City. Jaipur is probably one of the most touristed cities in the world, but still utterly fascinating. It's a beautiful place and was a nice start to our week in Rajasthan. Rajasthan was the start of our luxury travel and we stayed exclusively in heritage hotels (all havellis) that were each remarkable. We spent two nights in Shapura House -- easily the most elegant hotel I've ever stayed at. We had two suites (one for Sr. Schefflers, one for the four of us) that shared a public sitting area with views out over the (brrr!) swimming pool. I bet that pool is pretty nice in the summer, but it was below zero at night and it wasn't at all inviting. Diana and I even went to the hotel spa where (for $15) we each had a 30 minute massage: I had an herbal oil head massage and Diana got a foot massage. Heavenly. We spent one day checking out the city palace and shopping in the Pink City. The highlight (for the boys, at least) was finding a sword-maker! Kalani bought a sword and Kekai bought a beautiful horse-headed knife. Downtown Jaipur is a hustle and bustle place with no shortage of great things to eat and buy. The City Palace was amazing. I'm thinking I need to hire some Rajasthanis to paint our house in Volcano!

I should probably also point out that Shapura House, the most expensive of the amazing hotels we stayed in cost a little more than $100/night for each of the multi-room suites! In India it is much more expensive to stay in a Raddison or Marriott than in one of these amazing heritage buildings.
